End of Life for TLS 1.1

As of January 31st, 2020, Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.1 will no longer be supported. We removed TLS 1.0 support in August 2018 as it had been long since deprecated and insecure. All instances will have TLS 1.1 disabled on this date. We will only support TLS 1.2 and 1.3 protocols as of February 1st, 2020.

Question: Why are you deprecating TLS 1.1?
Answer: TLS 1.1 is an out-of-date protocol that does not support modern cryptographic algorithms. Additionally TLS 1.1 contains security vulnerabilities that may be exploited by attackers. The Internet Engineering Task Force (ITEF) is also planning to officially TLS 1.1 in late 2019 or early 2020.

Question: Why did you choose December 31st, 2019?
Answer: The industry is working to deprecate support for TLS 1.1. Google, Microsoft, Apple, and Mozilla have all announced that their browsers will no longer support TLS 1.1 as of March 2020.

Question: Will this affect my access?
Answer: It should not, because the vast majority of websites already support TLS 1.2. According to Qualys’s SSL Labs 96% of websites support TLS 1.2. We expect this number to rise significantly as March 2020 approaches.

Question: How can I tell if my browser support TLS 1.2?
Answer: The easiest way to test your browser is to use Qualys’s SSL Lab’s Browser Test Utility: https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/viewMyClient.html. Simply confirm that there is a “Yes” next to TLS 1.2 (or 1.3) in the “Protocols” section.
